Why I Preserve Food

You may also know me from Off-Grid Cabin.
I also own and write Off-Grid-Cabin.com, where I share our experiences with off-grid living, gardening, greenhouse growing, food storage and becoming more self-sufficient. Preserve Your Garden grew naturally from that lifestyle and focuses specifically on what happens after the harvest—how to preserve, store and make the most of the food you grow.
For me, preserving food has always been about making the most of what we grow and becoming a little more self-sufficient.
Living off-grid has made me appreciate just how valuable a well-stocked pantry can be. We grow food in our garden and greenhouse, and when harvest time arrives, there is often far more ready at once than we could possibly eat fresh. Learning different ways to preserve that food means less goes to waste and we can continue enjoying what we’ve grown long after the garden is finished for the season.
Over the years I’ve used many different preservation methods, from freezing and dehydrating to storing vegetables for winter and freeze-drying foods for much longer storage. Preserve Your Garden is where I share what I’ve learned, along with practical ideas that can help you preserve more of your own harvest—whether you grow a large garden or simply want to make seasonal food last longer.
